What Is ECO4?
ECO4 is the latest Government funding scheme available to help those homes that are suffering from fuel poverty, meaning the homes are uninsulated and are not using energy efficient heat sources.
By using renewable energy, you are not reliant on the supply of energy through the grid which is created by burning fossil fuels, instead you are harnessing the power of free energy created by the natural resource, the SUN, this can reduce your energy bills by up to 70% and have a positive impact on global warming.
This is a government backed grant, meaning you won’t have to pay it back.

How Does ECO Work?
ECO4 is one of the current Government energy schemes. It requires that large energy companies such as EDF, British Gas and nPower pay for energy-saving measures to be installed in people’s homes. This includes insulation, renewable energy, replacing or installing new low carbon efficient heating systems.
Who Qualifies?
You will qualify if you are on are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit
- Child Tax Credits / Working Tax Credit
- Pension Credit (Guarantee)
- Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance
- Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Your household income is less than ÂŁ31k
What Do I Have To Do?

If you are not the home owners any measures to be installed, the landlord will have to agree to the changes proposed. Landlords are very likely to have these changes done as their EPC band can increase which can increase the value of the property and give them much needed green credentials.
Why? What’s The Catch?
Since the creation of the Energy Act (2010) was passed, it became the Government’s responsibility to find ways to reduce the carbon footprint of the country. Their response to this was a number of schemes to achieve this. ECO4 which now provides the majority of funding for low-carbon heating systems, high-quality insulation and renewable energy, There is no catch!  You just need to have a qualifying benefit or be in a low-income household.
What Is The Process?
Fortunately, unlike it has been in the past, the process is now easy. Tenants or home owners contact us. They then find out if they’re eligible for funding from whether they have a qualifying benefit or are from a low-income household.
A survey is completed of the home with the permission of the landlord before the measures are carried out. The whole process generally takes between 14 – 21 days.
